Iolite is a semi-precious gemstone which is in violet-blue colour and called as Neeli in Hindi. It has a mineral combination of magnesium iron aluminium cyclosilicate.It is also called as Water-Sapphire. It can be used in place of Blue Sapphire and it is much softer than the Sapphire. It is abundantly found in Australia, Burma, Canada, Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, US.
It is known for its Pleochroism properties. It is easy to mould but tough to cut as it is difficult to cut in an exact angle and if it is not cut into a proper angle it will lose its properties. Iolite hardness is measured up to 7 Mohs.
